yeah I dont think your seeing this from her perspective. she doesnt know what the readers have been informed on or seen so to her, athys indecisiveness doesnt look like anything but distrust. hes been lied to all her life by people around her I guess she was hoping athy to be upfront with her because she was different
yes but she also lied to athy since she met her. even though athy already knew her secret, jeanette still never directly told her (i think i need to reread) but still expected athy to tell her everything when she’s under stress her own sketchy father is putting her through.
i just think she never truly thinks about what someone else’s feelings unless it’s tied to her in some way.
at this point she’s been told almost everything that the readers know(almost not quite yet)
her real father rat himself out and now she’s defending him knowing he’s hurting athy and trying to dethrone her father
all she’s focusing on is having a happy family, and i don’t think she’s taking anybody’s well being or mental states (like athy for example; she only really cared if she were mad at her) into actual long consideration.
I think that conversation was kind of both of their fault tbh, they were both making presumptions on how the other would react before they even said anything, and kept stalling when they didn't know for sure. that whole scene I was just as frustrated with both of them honestly...
they are drawing things so far out of proportion when they dont need to be (athy especially) honestly.. lucas should have caught on to the other black magic user like 50+ chapters ago, but he cant, because PLOT. jennette is far overdue for some development and should have started questioning things but she cant, because PLOT
she lived not being able to even go outside, or attend her aunts funeral without her uncles say so (which he didn't) I dont think she had any actual friends (not talking about ezekial, he clearly doesnt even consider her one and she had an unhealthy emotional crutch on him as a result of him being the only person around her age to talk to)
but he too, just pitied her.
social communication is a huge part of growing up, so I wouldn't be surprised she's been psychologically stunted as a result of this lack of exposure to things.. thats one theory
You literally can learn social communication just by observing people talk even when I was a child I was also prohibited from going outside so I didn’t have any friends but still I was able to learn COMMON SENSE and social communication just by watching my surrounding I mean I was lonely too but i still managed and also she could have just learned something just by her watching the maid talk the duke and also Ijikiel right? She had so many people surrounding her well i don’t mean someone who could talk to her but she can listen to them on how they talk she could’ve observe them and think of their point of view aswell but that is if she used her mind. :)
I know I sort of brought it up, but I dont we should even be comparing it to our own real self experiences or life logic because its a fictional story, but you can only get so much from just observation alone.. and seeing her uncle talk to someone who works UNDER him, doesnt really make a good ideal role model to show her what normal Relationships are supposed to be like. she has no frame or reference for a healthy relationship. I'm not taking about how to structure a sentence here.
I mean, how much can you possibly understand about yourself, when you've never seriously fought with your friends or family at least once? they didn't have that kind of relationship with her; they gave her what she wanted to keep her complacent, and scolded her for asking questions. its a carrot and stick relationship. she's more like some abandoned dog they picked up
athy was worried she wouldn't be believed about anastacius, but jennette also knows athy isn't a liar or a bad person, she's never done anything that would hurt her. so while she might have been nonplussed at her suddenly saying all this, and even IF in both scenario's she would have been just as doubtful or upset and kicked her out, I think telling her was definitely the right call in the long run. that way, wherever the chips do eventually fall, she cant say athy didn't try to warn her, or wasn't the one being straight with her. if she was going to be kicked out either way, why not be honest?
everyone is hiding things from jennette on both sides, and she senses that. shes never asked questions and simply trusted others all her life like a "good girl" but now that's shes self aware of it, no thanks to anastacius (anticipating athy wouldn't tell her anything when questioned) readers are expecting her to be even MORE patient and trusting when shes been backed into a corner emotionally and psychologically. these are same kind of people who spent the majority of the story complaining about that aspect of her personality the most btw. what? athy is the exception in this case because shes "good"?
I mean.. athy could have trusted jennette too. why does athys situation always have to come first? I dont see people pointing out her flaws all that much, but if they looked, you could find some and question her decisions. if anyone a "mary sue" its the way the readers always put her on a pedestal in this story..
Listen, I like her as an MC too. I've been reading this story for over a year now and she's one of my favorites. there are very few stories like this I can enjoy with a strong lead, but that doesnt mean I cant point out things I dont like about her or when shes wrong. readers in the comments be like they have to agree and defend her no matter what, in every circumstance. she's never makes mistakes in her judgment. ever. I just disagree and would prefer to see her as a human. not a "kyaaa! yes goddess!"
I think not telling jennette the truth is a mistake. one of the things I've gotten kind of tired of is athy keeping everything to herself and never telling anyone anything that goes on, girl lives inside her own head when shes in the middle of a conversation with someone.. stop internal monloguing TALK!
like yeah.. she got her own circumstances but I still find myself being left exasperated when she keeps something to herself that could have otherwise changed something by telling or getting help from someone else. I think lucas also pointed this out about her.
sorry that reply was longer then I initially intended.
I think I'll have to read this somewhere else for a while. less toxicity in the comments talking about jennette. funnily enough I think her character is kind of flat, and I dont even find her that interesting but it still pisses me off when the whole comment section in an echo chamber of female targeted slurs and degradation. >_>
what is it about girls hating secondary girl characters that aren't the mc?

My Opinion: I don’t think It’s not wrong to compare it to our own experiences because some scenes here can happen in real life and also I think you can learn social communication from anyone even if it’s a rival or your enemy itself after all they see her as a naive child and saying she doesn’t have any reference but yes she does considerig how many people are in the Duke’s house she can even observe them from afar so it’s really her who is the problem.
I mean, how much can you possibly understand about yourself, when you've never seriously fought with your friends or family at least once? they didn't have that kind of relationship with her; they gave her what she wanted to keep her complacent, and scolded her for asking questions. its a carrot and stick relationship. she's more like some abandoned dog they picked up
My opinion: Of course you can understand yourself you’ve lived woth eat since you were born and no one can understand you more than yourself and I don’t believe that she never fought with anyone before remember when they didn’t wan’t Jeanette to come to her Aunt’s funeral she insisted and fight back but she failed it’s not that she’s never been to a fight she just doesn’t have guts to do so.
athy was worried she wouldn't be believed about anastacius, but jennette also knows athy isn't a liar or a bad person, she's never done anything that would hurt her. so while she might have been nonplussed at her suddenly saying all this, and even IF in both scenario's she would have been just as doubtful or upset and kicked her out, I think telling her was definitely the right call in the long run. that way, wherever the chips do eventually fall, she cant say athy didn't try to warn her, or wasn't the one being straight with her. if she was going to be kicked out either way, why not be honest?
My opinion: Didn’t Athy said it was for the best? She said that if she told Jeanette the truth she would be the one who would be hurt the most and now you’re saying she should be honest? And how can she not be cautious about Jeanette when Jeanette is so naive and idiotic Jeanette even took his father side and didn’t even thought of Athy’s side first how can she be upset right now when Athy is literally doing the best as she could.
everyone is hiding things from jennette on both sides, and she senses that. shes never asked questions and simply trusted others all her life like a "good girl" but now that's shes self aware of it, no thanks to anastacius (anticipating athy wouldn't tell her anything when questioned) readers are expecting her to be even MORE patient and trusting when shes been backed into a corner emotionally and psychologically. these are same kind of people who spent the majority of the story complaining about that aspect of her personality the most btw. what? athy is the exception in this case because shes "good”?
My opinion: So she was being a “good girl” and just trusted anyone? It thought Athy was like her “SIsteR” but she still trusted someone who just popped out of nowhere call himself her father? And yes no one is telling her the truth but can’t she find ot out her own? She can hire a spy or she can do it her own just by observing her “father” right? It’s hard but isn’t that the only thing she can do if she wanted to know the truth and not pressuring someone to tell her the truth and yes the problem is her attitude she’s being ignorant and stupid right now It’s nice to let out your emotion but in a situation like this? Doesn’t she even cared for others? She’s being to selfish right now in my opinion.
I mean.. athy could have trusted jennette too. why does athys situation always have to come first? I dont see people pointing out her flaws all that much, but if they looked, you could find some and question her decisions. if anyone a "mary sue" its the way the readers always put her on a pedestal in this story..
My opinion: I mean Jeanette fans also call Athy a “mary sue” right so now and saying she’s uninteresting so isn’t this the effect? Athy thinks of others first when Jeanette doesn’t that’s their big difference. And why doesn’t she trust Jeanette? If you were in that situation would you tell the whole truth to your enemy’s daughter? And she literally fucking explained why she didn’t trust her right isn’t it always for Jeanette’s sake?
Listen, I like her as an MC too. I just disagree and would prefer to see her as a human. not a "kyaaa! yes goddess!"
My opinion: Doesn’t the others do that to Jeanette too? You talk like everyone is sided to Athy when you yourself and others do it for Jeanette too. And saying she never make mistakes.. well of course she doesn’t after all she use her head and doesn’t let her emotion affect her.
I think not telling jennette the truth is a mistake. one of the things I've gotten kind of tired of is athy keeping everything to herself and never telling anyone anything that goes on, girl lives inside her own head when shes in the middle of a conversation with someone.. stop internal monloguing TALK!
My opinion: Okay so... why the fuck should Athy be responsible for telling Jeanette the truth It’s not like she Jeanette own Athy right? She should find it out her own and don’t be a burden to others. I’m not saying it’s wrong but she’s getting too comfortable with Athy they’re not even real sisters.
like yeah.. she got her own circumstances but I still find myself being left exasperated when she keeps something to herself that could have otherwise changed something by telling or getting help from someone else. I think lucas also pointed this out about her.
My opinion: I agree with you but isn’t time to have confidence in her self and have guts to fight back simply having her screentime makes me irritated and I’m sorry but I’m not like you I dont even feel an ounce of guilt and pity for her. :)
she’s already been told the whole story. she knows everything except what athy and her dad know. she’s demanding secrets when she knows damn well she couldn’t tell her own.
she just refuses to see anything that doesn’t involve her. not everything has to be about her, and she just doesn’t realize this.
she’s super hypocritical and doesn’t even try to see someone else’s point of view unless she’s in their thoughts.
i mean she defended the man (she knows is lying and sketchy) that started this stupid power struggle
and if you say “well she doesn’t know, she’s a kid” then she’s just plain ignorant. every other noble child would be able to notice a power struggle happening during that time.
jeanette can’t see anything except for her desire of a family and her hypocrisy, ignorance, and selfishness is hurting everyone around her
