Is not that he doesn't want her to be pregnant. Sure, he doesn't want to help perpetuate the Taran blood, but that is secondary to the fact that he was tricked into believing that the only way for a woman to get pregnant from him is by him giving her his blood for several months (and some other nasty conditions), and he finds the process abhorrent and doesn't want to put her through that. Plus one of the conditions was that it had to be done right after she lost her virginity if I remember correctly, so he genuinely thinks she cannot get pregnant. He just doesn't want to tell her how, because he's afraid she'd be disgusted of him. None of it is true, BTW, it's just a tale they told him to trick him.
But even if it is a tale. He has a kid already. So doesnt all that info get thrown out of the window?
It's because Taran's can only reproduce with one another- its sick I know. That's how they survived (I forgot what chapter they mention that where their decendents hid away from the world only to remerge once everything settle down).
