Can anyone please explain why people are saying this is a flashback? Also when did the flashback-ing started?

I believe it's a flashback because in the first "chapters" they are adults, the flashback starts the first time we see them at school :) (btw they are in middle school and are 15 or smth)

It starts off with a college Zhan who lives alone and a smoking and drinking Jian Yi who has to play catch up because he didn’t finish his schooling due to his years long disappearance.

After we see Jian fall asleep we jump back to the past of their middle school days and the events that will lead up to his disappearance on the second day of HS. Likely this will involve his father. I don’t think he also transfers with He Tian because if that was the case Zhan would have info on what happened. Instead he gets 0 contact with Jian Yi. So whatever happens it’s more extreme than a simple transfer. Jian is crazy about Zhan. He would make contact if he could so likely something happens to prevent him from contacting him.

Occasionally for holiday chapters we see glimpses of the future like the new year chapter. The one where He Tian has a fancy car and Mo lives in a apartment alone no longer with his mom.

Yes. They’re clearly underage. Even if we assume He Tian is the oldest he must still be under 18 because he is begging for his brother to help fight his transfer. He Tian a guy with ego and pride would never just obey something he doesn’t want to unless he has to. His apartment is probably not even his. His brother or dad probably pay it. He Tian being helpless in his situation is absolute proof they’re all underage.
