It less of a practice there and more of the mangaka putting the characters in heteronormative roles because he’s the “girl” in the relationship
people in the middle east wear normal clothing. the kind depicted in mangas is sort of fetishized and made to be more revealing. but yes, culturally traditional arab clothing is really beautiful and extravagant.
Umm.. I’ve read shonen ai / yaoi manga with middle east setting (at least that what im thinking when i read them) and some of the manga have similar point: the uke wearing pretty (or woman?) clothes.. so i wonder if that a kink or a usual practice there..
