Why it feels like it escalated so fast from “I hate you” to “wanna have sex?”
1- “I hate you” They never said they hated each other, it just felt like they might because of the hostility. And then author showed in previous chapters that squirrel has always been at the very least physically attracted to pitcher (often hinted at however that he might have liked him till now but that’s way more implicit) Author still isn’t show any thoughts regarding what Pitcher thinks of Squirrel except unusual curiosity (and lowkey admiration, but he’s also prideful af so it’s showing up in tsundere manners). It’s a good thing though coz it makes their relationship more confusing and ambiguous to us.
2- “wanna have sex?” As I said before, squirrel explicitly showed in the story to be physically attracted to pitcher so whatever Now pitcher
A lot of people didn’t understand the ice cream scene
Basically it was at the peak of when Pitcher was most curious and also confused about his curiosity for Squirrel and was like “y tha fuck do I even care?” and he tried to rationalize everything. And then he sees squirrel licking tha ice cream. Y’all probably know how the cliche scene goes and that’s why the author didn’t put emphasis on it and rather used that in a silent symbolism of him kind of stepping into the “physical attraction scene” When squirrel left, he asked his friend what people usually think when they see someone asking just to double check and make sure that he isn’t crazy for thinking of it sexually.
And theeeeeeeennnnn he was like “okay imma check if that’s REALLY why I’m curious about him” or rather “imma check if I wanna bang him”
And then this
Voila
Hoped that helped a few!
The progression and sexual tension is so hella implicit since the characters aren’t blushing messes (they have fucking amazing poker faces hahaha) and their thoughts aren’t laid out every single time (plus there’s tsundere filters over them)
