How do you know him? Do you share the same classes, are in the same club, sports, etc? It’s easier to talk to someone one on one If you have something in common. It also eases the pressure by a lot to just casually bring up shared stuff instead of having to introduce yourself and not knowing what to say next. You could just make a comment like “wow the last homework sure was hard huh” or “I really like __ aspect of this hobby” or something along those lines.
