As a hard-core fujoshi with 1400+ yaoi read, I'm so desensitized to all of it. I can't imagine what it would be like to experience yaoi inadvertantly or accidentally. I'm really sorry that you had to experience something unpleasant - especially as a fan of the characters depicted.
