Westerners can be so idiotic sometimes. They're both consenting adults. It's perfectly fine to be uncomfortable with an age-gap because it's not something many are used to. Japans age of consent is 13 (in tokyo). However, many prefectures also have local "corruption of minors" or "obscenity statutes" (淫行条例) which raise the de-facto age of consent to 16-18, unless they are in a "sincere romantic relationship", usually determined by parental consent. Also, the adult amongst the party (eg 20 years old) needs to have the parental consent of their partner (which should be at least 16).

I really do not see this as pedophilia. This is also a work of fiction, like you say. Some people make a real drama about it (drama lama's), it's just fiction. I respect the opinion of others, everyone has the right to their own opinion.

Some facts: here in Belgium the age of consent is 16 year.
Between 14 and 16 years you officially can only have sex if your partner is maximum 5 years older then you.
Under the 14 years it is considered als 'rape', even if you both gave permission.

In Asian countries(more often than not), after you graduate high school (often times at age 18) you're already considered as an adult. You are expected to be a part of the society, You're considered to provide for yourself. You are free to make decisions, be punished by your crimes, and even get married.
