She's dressed poorly to "blend in" with the lower class. She's fond of singing folk songs and wants to be able to perform it without fear, but nobility has a stigma against anything lower class including folk songs. She's trying to make it popular so that the nobility find it less offensive. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why she had to perform at some sketchy back alley perv den in the dead of night instead of disguising as a commoner at a festival or something...
