does this have a sad ending or what?

It's not really sad. More like melancholic because of the reality that servants don't live as long as aristocrats but the couples are young and are looking forward to live their lifes together so I think it's a realistic ending because we don't get to choose how things end in life but we still enjoy out time that we have and work our hardest to make things work.
