You are commenting again on this issue of ch 4. I think you try to explain the chapter just as much as they try to explain why they hate it. To be honest, i don't like it either; if he liked his kouhai he should have said that to him, not sleep with the other dude, to release that dude. Anyway, what can you expect from a mere oneshot with this kind of subject.....
Did I really comment before?? I usually check to see if I've commented before writing twice. So, sorry about that. But you're right about a one shot - how much back story can you expect in the type of manga that spans and average of 30-35 pages? Honestly, "cheating" doesn't give me "the warm fuzzies", but I understand the psychology that drives the behavior. So, I don't like or dislike the concept. I just accept it as part of what some people do - I happen to have been one of those people who cheated... a lot. Not my proudest moments. However, I do think it is important for people to realize that just because their opinion is "popular" in society, doesn't mean that EVERYONE holds that opinion or should be expected to. We all experience life differently and to assume that everyone's experiences mirror one's own is hubris at it's finest. I may be a lonely voice, but I will BE a voice - if for no other reason than to educate others.
Well I did had a feeling that you may speak from your own experience. And I agree, everyone is entitled to their own opinion ( although I didn't say otherwise in my above comment). Of course, you can educate somebody that it's best to have their own opinion, but you have to make sure not to influence such opinion.
I failed to reply to your specific comment regarding the relationships between the sempai (president), "nameless" kouhai and the MC seme(?)... There was NO indication that the sempai (president) had any feelings for either of the other two characters. There was also no indication that the sex was anything more than the consentual "release of sexual frustrations" between ALL parties involved. The sempai didn't seem broken up over the MC seme hooking up with the uke, nor did the MC seme really care that the sempai was having sex with the "nameless" kouhai. There is no information given about the "nameless" kouhai's feelings. He may be madly in love with the sempai or not care if he's hit by a bus. "Nameless" is a throw away character used to show the lack of emotional connection between the sempai and MC seme. Thus, offering the opening for the uke and seme to hook up/ fall in love. This is a common writing tool for plot propulsion or exposition - think of the "classmates" whose names you never know or the generically named "girlfriend who breaks up with the MC" characters - same thing. They offer information to the reader without creating any emotional connection to the other characters or reader. Concern invested in "nameless" is wasted. I'm not saying you can't be concerned, I'm just explaining how "throw away" or "exposition" characters are defined academically. This is also why my OC started with..."First, it's fiction". All readers should be somewhat familiar with the tools and concepts used in fact based and fictional writing - this is why they make you take Literature and Writing classes in junior high. Without a reader knowing the basics of how a story is written, the "deeper" meanings and hints become lost and the reader becomes confused. It's quite a sad waste, really.
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that your first sentence was meant to be kind and not meant as an underhanded insult. I also never said that you claimed I wasn't entitled to my opinion. If this is an attempt at debate, you're not doing too well so far. Please try harder. If this is an attempt at an argument, I refuse to engage in petty squabbles and our discussion will end here.
Assuming you are attempting debate...I don't think there is anything wrong with influencing someone's opinion, or having my opinion influenced, for that matter. Information, experience and reflection shape our opinions. If I am offered another opinion that contains information I did not have previously, is based on another persons experiences and/or gives me pause to reflect on my own opinion, I would welcome it and gladly change my opinion of a subject if it were warranted. Opinions are meant to change. Consider opinions on homosexuality, child abuse, rights for minorities and women, slavery and the list goes on and on. These opinions changed due to influence, they didn't spontaneously just "switch". Someone had to stand up and educate others, encourage them to see things differently and ask them to choose to change their opinion. The exchange of information and ideas is the backbone of debate and discussion. Which, in turn, is the backbone of change. So, please, feel free to influence my and other's opinions. In doing so, you might change the world.
Yes, ok maybe you and the majority of people here can view sex just as an act of pleasure and release without much meaning, but for some others sex isn't just sex. It has to involve feelings and a steady partner. And precisely because this is fiction people don't like to see things that they can't identify with. This whole, is just sex people get over it, attitude is quite condescending to others who may not feel that way.
@Mameiha You talk too much. Sorry for being straight-forward about it. At first I wanted to see your opinion too, but then you started pushing onto Anjinsan your arguments so much that I just...didn't read everything. It's really pointless to persuade it, when people can have their own view about 4th chapter, chill.
So, you felt the need to.share this with me for... attention? You have it and my response to go with it. "Shut up and agree" or "back down from a challenge or debate" really isn't my style. If you don't like what I have to say, stop reading. Stick to Twitter if you have the attention span of a mayfly and the reading comprehension of a grade schooler. Please feel free to avoid all of my posted responses, as I tend to speak like an educated adult rather than a high school freshman. Thanks.
So... basically you're a bully defending another bully. Bravo! Good for you! You and your bully friends can go fuck your hats together. Why do I have to limit what comments I read and what I write for you? You don't feed me, clothe me, employ me or fuck me and you are not my child. So, what you think of me matters less to me than the shit tickets I flushed with my morning dump. But, just like the attention whore you defended, you just HAD to put your two cents in, didn't you. Which firmly categorizes you equally as an attention whore AND a bully. Your parents must be so proud.
In my first reply to you I made every attempt at being nice. I even took the time and effort to type, not only an apology, but also a full explanation of why I made my original comment. Yet, in return, I get snide remarks from you. Who here is really the one with an issue? I sincerely don't care if you like or agree with my opinion. I didn't make that comment to make friends or be popular. I made it to voice my thoughts on what I read, both in the story and in the comments. I can't help it if you don't like the way I express myself, but your dislike of my self-expression does not give you, or anyone, the right to silence me. If you disagree with my opinion, attack my opinion, don't attack me. Have the intelligence and eloquence to explain, as I did, how and why your opinion differs. "Because I said so.", only works on those who are 4 and under. If you want to change my opinion, you'll have to work for it, but I welcome it. If you want to silence me, I'm afraid I can not acquiesce to your request or bullying by others.
... Slow your roll. First, it's fiction. The mangaka needed a conflict, this is what they chose. Second, it's just sex! Shit! Yes, you can have sex to relieve stress - I call it "getting the poison out". As long as both parties - or all parties - consent to the act without a relationship outside of sex-friends, it's all good and fair. No one is "cheating", no one is "hurt" and no one has to be tied to anyone else. Sex with someone you truly love will ALWAYS be more fulfilling than sex with a sex-friend, but sometimes you just need a release. If you don't have a "true love" a sex-friend does the job nicely. At least the "president" wasn't pushing down first years and "raping" them all willy-nilly.
