Isn't it called Tang Yuan?
Well I really had no idea what it was called in English, so I just put the pinyin of it in Chinese

this chapter wasn't random, it was yuanxiaojie (lantern festival or something in English) yesterday, and in China we eat these balls made from flour with sweet flavours inside (yuanxiao). Which is why the author had like 'taro' and 'black sesame' for the little dogs in spoons, those are the flavours the characters would be if they were yuanxiao.
