The poetic justice of Lissa's parents going down in flames was satisfying from a poetic justice point of view. They were such toxic filth that the only people who would be sorry would be people who loaned them money without paperwork or collateral. For me, however, the least forgivable person was the older sister. During all the years she was playing Mommy's and Daddy's Princess, she obviously never stood up for her little sister, and no one was in a better position to know what kind of person Lissa was than her older sister. At the beginning of the story, she is annoyed with Lissa for not pretending that their parents love her and insists that Lissa talk like they are one big happy family. This is happening while Princess and her Golden Boy husband are heading out on vacation with Mommy and Daddy, having dumped their two girls on Golden Boy's brother.

As to the ML, he wasn't all that bad when compared to the normal Harlequin arrogant jerk, but he never seemed to notice when he straight up insulted her. On finding her then boyfriend trying to come on to her, he remarks that this is how she spends her time and that nothing has changed. He then says that if WE had known she was going to be appointed as co-guardian, her parents would have opposed. When she throws him out of her office, he is butthurt that she doesn't smile for him and wonders why she treats him so badly. It's as though he is saying to himself, "Gee, I treat her pretty nicely for a whore. What's wrong with her judgement?" Whatever is between his ears, it has little to do with common sense or understanding of anyone else's feelings or point of view.

Not only the ML and her toxic parents, but the fat-faced lawyer that apparently was in charge of the will, assumed that she was a total slut, while ML had a "spotless reputation." Did her disgusting parents hate her so much that they broadcast her supposed sins to the entire world, or did the ML, who apparently saw the lawyer while she was on her business trip, tell him that she couldn't be a guardian to the children because she was a whore?

Well, considering the ending, the ML kind of maybe redeemed himself (although it almost seemed that he was sort of disappointed that she wasn't a Magdalene and he couldn't play the loving and forgiving type). As to the lawyer, he was judgmental and unprofessional. For the deceased: Good riddance to all of them.

Agree with you entirely. Also, I find it hard to comprehend how & why it was so easy for her to have sex with him. It's so unlike her. He said things to her which meant 'one would know a whore after taking one look at you'. And she still went ahead and slept with him, plus convinced herself she was in love with him! HOW??? What about that pride the girl thinks she has? It seems to have eloped with her brains, never to come back!
