The emperor tricked the dad into a subservient oath (mind control basically). When our mc was really little the emperor asked the to bring the person he loved the most, when the dad was about to bring her she hid cause the dad was acting weird and the emperor’s assassins killed the mom. So in the first timeline he kept her at a distance to keep her safe. He escorted her to the prison to keep her safe and the crown prince max (the male lead) was supposed to save her but she misunderstood and committed suicide. The dad truly loves her

this is what i think before the spoiler:
i think in the past the Duke didn't give her the dagger because he wants Jubel to kill herself but to protect herself that's why the Crown Prince was surprised and told her to stop since i think in the past the Duke told her to endure it since the Crown Prince will help her escape later on. (and it kinda make sense since the Crown Prince doesn't care about his Family and he said he came to the prison "to see who poisoned his sister (which doesn't make sense since he said he doesn't like weaknesses) but idk the duke might be referring to his wife the Duchess when he said not again when she fainted.
that's what i was thinking, for a man like that who tries to assassinate his father and curses his family to be concerned about his sister?...yeah no. it just didn't make sense. and why would her father tell her to endure it if he had given up on her? i just couldn't understand that part.
The duke and the crown prince are working together to rebel so they were playing their respective roles the duke gave her the dagger to protect herself until the crown prince Max could save her ( like in case a rando guard tried to hurt her before Max could get there) but because he was forced to keep the mc at a distance for her protection she mistook it for him not loving her and telling her to kill herself.

but i don't think the dad hated her in her past life either. he probably had a reason for acting cold to her or maybe it was just his personality. he also probably gave her the knife as a means to protect herself if someone tried to do anything to her in the prison. and he most likely told her to endure it because he would overthrow the emperor soon. i noticed he said it wasn't the right time yet to overthrow him. IMO they just need to talk it out at this point because she's misunderstanding everything and he's not correcting her because he doesn't notice her awkward manner towards him.
