Though I think in this case, the man in question is probably doing it to curry favor from a colleague or a customer. Which opens up a very big can of worms, if that were the case.........

is it common for people in japan to hug people they work with? Specially being the opposite sex? Aren't they more polite and less intimate when it's about business?
