When an MC of a story introduces their supposed "friend" I have come to have a major dislike for them because they always turn out to be some bastard that thinks they are helping the MC out by trying to away their lover or love interest or they are just the irritating rat that hangs around the couple all the time because they are trying to put their own problems on the back burner. When an MC says "friend" I take it like a grain of sand (like when my younger sister says she has a friend at school) because I am sure that our definitions for such are vastly different.
