I think that he somehow scaped and the one with grey hair might be the son off the last seme? Thats how i saw
but it say he died and met him in his new life in the summary also in the story when he saw the people of the unit he said they will be great in the future so he already knows their future because it happened in his previous life

I think i understand abit..first , this life is when you see the seme has grey hair and the past life is the orange hair it starts with the past life when the uke lost in the war and became the emberor's bedmate then return to the present when he somehow ended with the seme in bed after drinking then the story slowlly tells what happened in the past in detail and l think it will explain how was his previous life before he died and reincarnated and met the seme and ended with him in bed , but it clearly says he incranated to before he lost in the war and he remembered everything so he tried to change that to avoid this fate so he travelled to the other country and was looking for a new life then ended in this inn and that happened
we just need to wait and everything will be clear . l don't thimk it's a bad story it just is slow so we just have to wait abit longer
