"I couldn't be your ocean"

Although the ex-boyfriend was abusive and manipulative, his character development hit me the most. I'm not saying that his actions should be excused in face of the fact that he was dealing with rejection. That's not how it works. But he was able to let go in the end, while many other abusive characters try to justify their behaviour by putting the blame on someone else or never even realise that what they do is wrong.
"I couldn't be your ocean" expresses, that the ex-boyfriend couldn't bestow the feeling of freedom and belonging upon the MC and shows acceptance for the MC's feelings and that hit me like a truck.
