I know right, the friend is so sus! I smell betrayal since he's quite jealous of Daerin since young. I hope he doesn't betray him tho but there's a 80% chance he will, I think he want that position as well (grand merle?)
Personally, I don't think what he wants is the grand merle position but rather recognition. We know for sure that he's always been regarded as substitute and believes that he has no structured role to play. I kinda feel bad for him #－.－)
