i havent read the novel but i guess the people who hates the father from that scene are just dumb
when i first saw the scene i already felt how he cares for her.
this is my interpretation,okay:
she was supposed to be executed right then and there
but father tried to get her some time, so he brought her to the shadow room. he gave her the knife and said, 'endure it'
doesnt that say SOO MUCH ?
he didnt say die or you deserve it
he said endure it! meaning he'll come back for her
the father gives me the same vibe as the abandoned empress father vibe misunderstood father who was there for them
