Hi! I am bi and I identify as a she/they and I read a lot of bl. I know everyone criticise women who read bls. However, I read bl bcs feel like the story line/the plot is interesting unlike the straight ones where they tend to sexualise woman and make her look weak /inferior, have her act in a certain stereotype that makes me very uncomfortable.

thasts exactly me omg there are some straight romances that are good with healthy relationships, but its sad that most of them consist of harem shit. most bls dont have harems, and the relationships are more romantic and realistic (not saying the sex is)

felt this. most of the ones ive come across tend to make women come across annoyingly jealous, with unrealistically huge boobs (even for a manga) and typically has harem which literally does nothing for the barely-there plot

Agreed, and as someone who reads all romance genres, I especially like the way BL shows the emotional/vulnerable side of male characters, somethings that different from straight romances and shoujos, which usually portray the male lead as perfect boyfriend material, while the female lead is just clumsy and cute.

thats exactly why i read gl too, where it portrays different types of unique personalities in girls. the good straight romances i've read always had the girl with a kink fetish or vice versa, and it was really annoying.

I agree but not all sl stories sexualize women, i like sl that have strong fls and sometimes in bl they make the uke so weak too it goes both ways.
