Read it ages ago and it had the classic trope of guy sent to another world
There was a set of twins that had some connection to a water god that he found I’m not sure if it was either A) he rescued them from being slaves, or B) he just casually found them in the super dangerous forest and took care of them.
They do get a magical bird/tiger or dog from the gods.
I do know 100% that his role was to take care of them
