Same but thank goodness they’re now in the process of raising it to 16 :) Age of consent in my country was actually 12 (makes me so angry) but was raised to 16 very recently. 16 is still too young imo but it will do for now.

Jp has age of consent set by prefecture the law mentioned is saying no prefecture can set it below 13 all the prefectures laws are 16 or above.

Agree but Japan's age of consent was not actually 13. One law implies that it is but there are multiple layers that prevent any sexual relations with a minor. There's a law about fornication which isn't allowed if you're under 18. Other aspects to it that basically implies that the age of consent is 18.
The issue is that there are regional laws around this topic that ambiguously creates loopholes. But under the radar, it vaguely explains that sexual relationships with a minor (under 18) is not allowed. Though 16-18 is debated on depending on the age of the older partner.
Glad to see Japan creating a national law on it though. We need to protect children and minors from any form of grooming or sexual abuse.
Asian here as well, it's even worse in my country, the age of consent is 12. I mean, what in the world does a 12 year old even know? I might've known better but judging from how I read 12 year olds speak in SNS, it creeps me the heck out. Them acting like they know it all. There was a teacher and student who caused a scandal in our neighborhood when he got the student pregnant. And for me, who's frankly also still a minor, it just creeps me out on how the future will be.
But I also know my teacher's story. She had a crush on a practice teacher, she was 17 and he 21. She confessed when she was 19 and was no longer his pupil and well turns out he felt the same and admitted that he was afraid she'd find out about his feelings and has always tried to hide it until she was of age and wait for her. They got married 2 years ago. So idk honestly. If they're willing to wait for each other until they're both of legal age, I think it's fine. As long, and I mean AS LONG as withing that time they wait, they're relationship remains platonic or at least a mutual understanding of their feelings.

I saw some comments saying that minor-adult relationships are normalized everywhere in Asia and speaking as an Asian, that is absolutely FALSE. I advocate against that every day bc I prioritize the safety of all minors above all else.
Japan is also currently trying to raise their age of consent to 16 so please spread the good news.
Personally, I do not condone IRL minor-adult relationships bc there are sick, depraved monsters lurking everywhere just waiting to take advantage of young people. It’s not a simple “none of your business” thing. Bc for many adults, it’s more important to PROTECT all minors esp children than to promote “FREE LOVE” between adults-minors. We give zero fcks about your age gap as long as you’re both LEGAL AGE. This is hard to understand esp if you’re a teenager in love but when you become an adult and have kids of your own, trust me when I say you’ll be the first person advocating against minor-adult relationships for real. As adults, we prioritize the SAFETY of all minors ABOVE ALL ELSE.
And to my lovelies who don’t condone minor-adult relationships IRL, your feelings of disgust are PERFECTLY VALID. But since this is fiction and the minor is within the age of consent (17 or 18 approx), it’s also valid to like this fictional story. Basically, EVERYONE’S FEELINGS ARE VALID whether you thought sensei was a creep for fetishizing virgin teenagers or thought nothing of him.
