basically, a gang leader who is a kid (ash) has experienced a ton of trauma and is constantly involved in violence and criminal activity. he’s the type of person who prioritizes others over himself, yet he has nobody by his side. eventually, he meets eiji, who is clearly his platonic soulmate. ash feels a connection to him because he thinks eiji is the only one who is kind to him and asks for nothing in return. although ash risks his life to protect eiji with all he has, in the end they are ripped apart and ash is killed. my explanation definitely does not do the anime nor the manga justice, and i highly recommend reading/watching it. i’ll have to admit, it wasn’t my cup of tea at first either, but i got into it after finishing the first episode. :)
