I totally get you. I'm an English major student and the amount of toxic stories I have read are astounding. Literay, award-winning stories that are taught every year are more fucked up than this one, hoo boy. But I expected it because not all stories are created to entertain. I have been taught that stories aren't to just fulfill fantasies. They can be experiments, a ride created by the author with the sole purpose of fucking with your morals. Like fucking Lolita. I hate the story, but I understood what the author was trying to do. To fuck with your mind, lol. So after reading THAT story and so many others, I can tell what an author's intentions are when they create a story. Because in the end, this is a historical story that probably wanted to test you, not so much as entertain you, ya feelin me?
oh yes I completely get you! I have also had my share of fucked up stories that I read both fiction and non fiction. They are horrible and I hated so many of them but I understand why fiction writers try to write such pieces, to stimulate the human mind and it works haha. And yes this story here is an historical piece and it does adhere to the behaviour of that time period so I feel it’s wrong to compare to today’s moral behaviour.
I think detail you have to look at is the time period this story is based in. Not SeungHo’s behaviour is okay but I am pretty sure noble lords of that time were a bunch of jerks, some perverts and rapist ugh. There was a lot of non con shit. If this happened today in our times I think they’d be jailed but back then rich/powerful people thought they could do whatever so I think it’s probably a common thing for them. Minus the gay ofc, since sodomy was sort of a taboo.
What I am saying is basically the only reason I can tolerate seunghos behaviour compared to other toxic semes is cause I have lowkey expected this behaviour coming from those in his position (being a history student and all) so yea somehow tolerable to me, could be different to others.
