yeah, i feel like with BL manga (or gay media in general) it's all supposed to be escapist fantasy, so safe sex practices are often brushed aside - STD talk isn't exactly fun or sexy, lmao. at least we often see characters using condoms in BL manga, and japan has one of the lowest HIV infection rates, although the figures have been climbing in recent years.
