Might be a paradox kinda situation the need to break out of. Landlord tries to save them-gets reset-ends up killing them because they know too much-either regains his memory or is never reset as nothing is wrong in the past and no one knows anything about time travel after they die-landlord realizes they die and how-tries to save them- the cycle repeats.
Also there is the possibility of the parallel/divergent timeline theory taking effect.
The restriction placed must be "a time traveler can never do something in the past that hasn't already been done", hence why "R7" wasn't allowed to meddle as "mama" kept him in check.
Then there's the question of how the loop sets off or comes into effect in the first place.
