I agree with you. Everyone is gonna come up with some reason as to why and yada yada yada, but Everyone knows the Duke's personality by now. He wouldn't have changed his fucking mind so easily to let her leave and as long as she has been dealing with him, she should have realized that.. That's just my opinion though. I tend to question everything especially when it's out of character for someone I know really well.
Also unpopular opinion: she annoys me.
Pls guys remember, she still haven't fully recovered. Her mind and body was overworked, even with a functioning mind(the part where she question about the path taken by the maid) it takes her a moment to notice something was wrong.
The same as in the novel, the duke allowed her to move, at least within the mansion. Also don't forget that Geronis sometimes request Ripley to see him via messengers, like in the past chapters, so of course she'd go to him when someone asked of her using his name.
Also she's a count's daughter. She may have her own personal maid, but that doesn't mean other maids won't attend her. She is not paranoid enough to be wary of some unknown maid. In the novel, once she noticed the carriage, she immediately knew something was amiss. She tried to run, but she got cornered by TWO KIDNAPPERS. The back entrance Ripley took was closed off by the maid. Ripley tried to bribe the kidnappers, claiming she'd give them more money than their boss, but it's futile.
So don't blame her for being "too careless".
fucking pissed like how can you get kidnapped so easly. Like youre taught dont TALK TO FUCKING STRANGERS.
