Tbh I think many people of today if they experienced being confined like that would cut all ties and just spend the next decade or two moping around. Secondly, quite a lot of late teens/young adults rebel towards their parent(s) at some point even when they haven't been confined - maybe not to this extent but in smaller actions like talking back, so.... ya.

i keep seeing people annoyed over the fact that she rebelled as she grew-- i mean for all your life you were confined and afraid you'll die a little escape is normal for a reaction(〜￣△￣)〜
