It seems like a lot of y'all are confused. So I'll explain it the best I can. Here goes
So the current emperor is actually the SECOND in line for the throne. The PREVIOUS one that went mad and died is Eclet's real father; her mother was a saintess and thus have magic. Now, since Eclet's dad died, the brother succeeded the throne w/c is now the current emperor and the MC's "father"
Now, for the backstory of our MC.
MC's mother has TWO male childhood friends. One is blonde and the other has red hair (w/c is now the current emperor) MC's mom and the blonde dude fell in love, was engaged and had kids. Those kids are MC and her twin brother, the crown prince. Her twin brother didn't just suddenly appeared. He's been referenced since early on in the earlier chapters. Now, since MC's mom and MC's real dad was engaged, when her dad died in an accident, MC's mom was super depressed and the red haired guy consoled her. Idk if they ever got married or not cuz at that time, the red haired dude will be succeding the throne since his brother died. Now, the current emperor just adopted MC and her brother so there won't be any complications with him and MC's mom. Still not clear about that stuff tho.
Given all that, basically. MC and her twin brother didn't have ANY shed of royal blood with them. Only Eclet since her dad was the previous emperor. The reason why MC said the Eclet is technically her "cousin" was because MC's foster dad is the brother of Eclet's dad. In the original story, MC's twin brother actually fell in love with Eclet, too so that's that.

But then Eclet wouldn't be the princess because her dad is the king anymore. The MC and her brother are the real princess and princess since they were adopted in. Eclet is just the emperors niece..
But she's the ONLY one that has royal blood so she's immediately the legitimate successor. That's how it's always been when it comes to royalty. Bloodline is always regarded as priority more than anything when talking about successor and appointing a rightful heir
