That's because it was mentioned for like two pages ages ago, back when they were happily boinking.
Basically, ML's omega "mom", Angel, is placed under constant house arrest by ML's dad. (The little black box sort I'm sure) Not surprisingly, Angel likes to escape from time to time despite knowing he can't get away. And for some inexplicable reason, even to the ML, everytime Angel is recaptured, everyone in the family has to give him jewelry and gifts. Probably as a way to appease whatever grievance that had had Angel fleeing for the hills in the first place.
I expect ML's Dad is much like the ML unfortunately. An inconsiderate, jerkwad who can't see how he's hurting the people who love him or even that they're in pain. But we have yet to really meet either of the MLs parents, so who's to say?

Not trying to defend scumbag Keith but maybe he watched his dad doing the same thing Keith is doing now but to his wife angel, probably why angel is said to be in a mental hospital or house arrest.. sad
