If I read correctly though I think both the empress and emperor were infertile because the prince stole cookies from his mother which contained a poison she was gonna use to make a concubine miscarry or infertile but the kids loved the cookies so much they ate them all. It wasn't until the emperor overheard a conversation between his mother and someone else that the cookies were laced and he had like shit that he fucked over his empress which is why he never made it a big deal when she couldn't get pregnant.
