Those padded jackets are really popular but also really expensive in Korea so teens see them as a trendy item that decides their financial status and stuff.teens really beg or sometime rebel against their parents for the jacket bcuz all the other "cool" kids are wearing them and they make fun of those who don't have them just like how we make fun those who don't have an iPhone or airpods.this is really a big burden on parents so they go out of their ways to earn to afford such items for their kids.i picked this up from a BTS song spinebreaker that basically speaks about similar issue how a teenager just to fit in society's standards burdens his parents so they can be seen as someone respectful and cool as others.
Honestly I grew up such a household so I know expect I'm not korean.its just I found the mothers story a bit familiar
