He did he never wanted to be the bad guy but he dad too so that the marlyens (i don't know how to spell) stop attacking the eldians he knew what to do and how to do and he took the chance.
This is just my personal feeding, but I think eren almost forced himself to be the bad guy. I feel like he wanted everyone to move on and live their own lives. I feel like he became the bad guy to give everyone peace of mind. (Yes I am aware that this has kinda been confirmed when he tried to block out mikasa and get her mad at him, but at the time I didn’t think it ran this deep.)
