Okay, the pacing of this is hilarious. It's alike adapting from a Wikipedia entry of a novel rather than the novel itself. The only reason I can follow this is because of my knowledge of the tropes and genre. I know what's happening, but obviously this is too rushed for the audience to connect with the emotional stakes or cheer anyone on.

Each chapter has enough material to be an entire arc, and I suspect that that's really the case. I think that the best way to adapt this within 5 or so chapters is to start chapter 1 in High School, cut out the supporting characters and focus on the 4-5 main characters. The backstory could be explained in text boxes or short flashbacks.
