exactly, i also live in the states and i have always hear people say "thats gay" to refer to something cringey so i didnt think much of it when the translator said that. I didnt realized some people would freak out over it. I think some people are being a bit dramatic and claiming the translators homophobic, i mean if the translator was homophobic they wouldnt habe translated a gay manga yk (/TДT)/ . So thank you for clarifying that it just means cringey/weird so some people can undertstand exactly what the translator meant :)
YESSSSS a lot of actually gay people say "that's gay" as a joke to one another or to friends who're allys. I do that a lot when I'm watching TV with my sister and she's the most annoyed when I'm the gay one.
Some people think that the translator meant to say gay in an insulting manner like; "only gay f*gs say sentences like that". Where I lives in the states we like the use the word "gay" sometimes to refer to something being stupid/weird/cringey. It's not trying to denounce things relating to actual gay people. Maybe this is region to region thing like I saw someone else say in the comments, but I personally don't think the translator was trying to be offensive just funny.
