I knew it was a mana suppressant as soon as attention was drawn to the medication. It just couldn't be anything else when she's mentioned it, her father was adamant in her taking it, etc. Probably in some grand scheme to collect the mana and put it at someone else's disposal. Probably that "angel" that Abel was obsessed with in the original novel.

I really just can't trust churches in fantasy novels! XD

    Well you can't trust churches in reality so in fiction they are bound to be the bad guy.
