I'm thinking maybe jin-woo's dad may have been a monarch but ended up betraying the other monarchs and got stuck inside a gate somehow. The monarch in the armour may have been the first to hold the power and then it transferred to jin-woo's dad but since he betrayed the others it transferred to jin-woo?
