I know where you are coming from. Like he only told the guys that he was leaving so pretty much everyone didn't expect it. I mean don't get me wrong I like all the characters and I get where everyone of them is coming from, but chihaya is irresponsible and selfish as well. She mainly focuses on how to get better her self, not towards the latest chapters though, but she was only striving for arata and practically ignored taichi.
He's also being irresponsible in neglecting himself. This period is like a therapy to him, if you may say. And I think you're jumping the gun too fast. It's not like he's really neglecting Chihaya altogether. If he stays, he will only be a burden. If he really finds his true self and a real reason to play karuta, I'm sure that will make Chihaya's karuta-fanatic side happier.
To be honest I'm really happy for taichi. He was suffering with unrequited love and he was playing karuta despite him not liking it. But now that he is with the meijin, he is enjoying karuta and is no longer suffering
