I read the light novel awhile back but for the most part he is alone. Hell difficult because of how much people died and difficult it was, was made illegal by the country and was advised people will pick other modes than it. However in the future there is one female who joined Hell difficult and he ends up giving her advice to get to his lvl which is blocked by co-op only mode. That’s as far as I got and then I lost track. From my understanding though, the female isn’t annoying. She upholds her part and is a genius. I haven’t read as far but from my point of what I remember they never met up but used the community to chat.
