I agree. If someone wants to be a stay-at-home spouse in the future and already talked about it with their spouse, then that’s fine. But Leandro literally threatened to break up with Marnie and take full custody of their child if she doesn’t stop pursuing her dream, and that’s horrible. Even if he allowed a compromise for her to continue the internship at NASA, she now prioritize him over her livelihood.
Yeah I mean, even putting aside archaic prejudices, that whole "A child needs a mother at home" ideal just isn't realistic anymore at least not in the USA where both parents need to work to be able to afford raising a child. This story feels like it was written in the 90s but it's only from a decade ago.
Nice to see a new comment on an old post tho!! Brings back some memories.
Some people feel joy from being stay at home spouses and theres nothing wrong about that. This story really didn't depict that well though. It felt kinda like being a mom > than anything else. "Fuck education/dreams/jobs cause now I'm a mom and theres nothing more important than that" kinda vibes. You don't need to let go of your ambitions just cause you married with a kid. If the marriage dont work out then what?
