Actually Nocton isn't really that bad of a guy. He has done some mean things in the past, but generally, most of the things he did had reason. Also, what they've shown from the past of Nocton and Valrose isn't the full story, so don't be too quick to paint him as a terrible guy. Its only just that were seeing things only from Valrose's perspective now.
...then you definitely shouldn't be reading my post (because, just so you know, going ahead and reading my comment in a situation like that is equivalent to someone downvoting a post just because they dislike opinions that aren't the same as theirs, then being miffed when someone downvotes their own post because of the rather harmful content their post displayed):

Does he explain those reasons to her from the very beginning? No. So those who defend him thank you for proving my point about him being a jerk. He doesn't call her by her name but STILL suspects she was brainwashed by him? Then she gets blamed by everyone else (especially the readers) for believing she was brainwashed? Um. HE'S the one who should know more about that than her yet no one's blaming him for not knowing that. Laughable.
And even if he didn't think she was brainwashed, that actually makes things worse, since readers would now be blaming her for responding negatively to being DELIBERATELY treated like a toy. And especially since readers are going on to blame the FL for feeling mistreated because she didn't do all the emotional labor she was 'supposed' to do without expecting anything in return. I mean those same readers even expect her to 'kommyewnikayt' with someone like him because it's the 'adult' thing to do. Except expecting a victim to communicate with their abuser has always been the least mature attitude for anyone to hold. It's just gaslighting folks! Buhbaiiiiinow.
