I think the uncle is trying to protect Kate. Kate can't protect herself right now ( she's doesn't even want to belive she's a witch , she hasn't awakened as well, so she won't protect herself. ) he is her godfather so it's understanding that he will try to protect her. There is an evil witch looking for her and also Ian is cursed ( explains why they keep calling him a monster) so he will also be dangerous ( from the view of the godfather). Kate may not see that Ian is dangerous probably because he also hasn't awaken yet , but her godfather does and that is why his trying to protect her. Your right about him treating her like a child , but I think I understand, they have been apart for a long time and his am elf, he cares about her and see her like his child. He wants to do all the things he couldn't do for her , and protect her.

I'm giving the uncle a pass because he is specifically trying to shelter her because of that which we saw that is trying to get her heart, so if she were to go outside, she would no longer be inside the barrier and would get killed. Although when it comes to Ian I hate him, he treats her like she's a 5-year-old and he is her father. He literally thinks she's an object and that he can push around, like no Mister she can make decisions for herself. she's grown.
I completely understand, but as someone who loves her so much and doesn't know how to love , I think its understandable that he treats her like that . He doesn't know what love is or how to treat his loved ones. He was never loved by either his mother or father ( of cause the wife of his father did give him love , but it was too late. He had already gotten used to not being loved or seeing love) so his love is over the top and he thinks what's he doing is correct. He wants to protect her and thinks limiting her from everything dangerous is right , not letting her have her choice which is wrong. Honestly I do understand your point here, but that doesn’t really excuse his actions. He still treats her like an object either way. Of cause that doesn't excuse his action , but doesn't know that , he doesn't know that his doing something wrong. He himself thinks his doing something good, as I have stated because of his upbringing.
