We WERE in the past in the previous two chapters, but we are back in the present (right after the car crash) in chapter 48. It is just that the alpha has amnesia and doesn't remember anything past the age of 14 (which was the past we just saw).
We were in the past, but we're in the future now because he got hit by a car and lost his memories.
Wait was this the present? Is because he said that he was his ex boyfriend. So, I am pretty sure the story we are seeing is in the past.
