That's exactly the problem, this author just can't let the poor kid have a f*cking break. He was faced toward several thraumatic experiences one by one without giving him time to deal with anything. The only reason why He could handle all that shit without turning permanently scared and maybe suicidal is his light and selfish personality: THOSE TRAITS THAT EVERYONE HATES. He protects himself quite well, adapting to his situation and looking for an adventageous point. That's a survival instinct. He's handling all this stuff quite well, but it looks like this guy that "loves him" only wants to make things difficult for him all the time.
