he actually still follow that rule, you know...since he doesnt care about Eto so he doesnt want to save her, right? She is not the old man that he love, so why he has to protect her even if the old man ask him to?
The Old man is the one he would like to protect, not the old mans daughter, he doesnt care about Eto, and for me that is why he choose to protect those he only care about.

That is so true. I can see him as the best anti-hero.
You know in some weird twisted way I feel this is a positive personality change in Kaneki (even though I love this new personality dearly). He's finally stopped using his previous mindset of 'I have to protect the people I care about' that he got from his maggot of a mother and is following his own path, even if it means he isn't a 'hero'.
