i'm not sure really, its a rabbit hole i just fell down. yaoi has a different type of struggle than straight mangas would such as homophobia and secret relationships - of course, that's only if you read something on the serious side.
there are also different cliches, kind of.

here's an analogy with desserts
you don't feel like eating cake(straight manga, action manga, etc) anymore, no matter the flavor, so you try a different dessert, a cookie (yaoi), perhaps. maybe you like the cookie so you start eating cookies, maybe you don't.(I hope this makes sense)

really all it takes is a couple of good yaoi mangas and you could read them non-stop.
if you ever feel like trying out yaoi the best thing you can do for yourself is to choose a good one. don't just click on one you see, it could ruin your experience entirely.
