Ahhh I understand this, if you think of something bad or something you don’t want to think about, you knock on something solid and it makes you stop thinking about it or it just makes the thought go away

Yup! Just a silly superstition thing. It's not that I think it makes a difference at all, but it's the thought that is conveyed "I really hope this doesn't happen" :D
