Hi! The Hwa/Ga/Hua trio identifies the comic's original language or where it came from:
    Manhwa - Korean
    Manga - Japanese
    Manhua - Chinese

BL is an abbreviation of "Boy's Love" which is basically stories that involves boys loving boys. The explanation differs from person to person but for me, BL is basically an umbrella term for any boy on boy action.

Under BL, there are two genres, Shounen Ai and Yaoi. Shounen Ai focuses more on the relationship and feelings altogether with little to no sex scenes. Yaoi, on the other hand, can focus on romance too (I recommend filtering with Yaoi+Romance) but these types of stories tend to focus on sex (which can be explicit or not).

Shounen are stories targeted towards boys, Shoujo are targeted towards girls, Seinen are targeted towards men and are usually mature, and Josei are targeted towards older women.

Lastly, Doujinshi are any type of work that caters to certain groups of people. And by that, I mean fandoms. It's basically fanfiction. Doujins aren't limited to manga, though, there are games and other stuff that are considered as doujins.

    Hope this helped!

Y’all are explaining it so badly.
    Shounen ai-Boys Love no sex

    Yaoi-Boys love with sex

    Yuri-girls live with sex

Shoujo ai- girls love no sex

Shounen- directed toward young male audiences

Shoujo- directed toward young femal audiences

    Josei-directed towards mature female audiences

    Seinen-directed towards mature male audience

Doujinshi- A fan book made from an original story. It’s not cannon it’s basically just a book the fans wrote based on the original doesn’t have to be BL. It can even be just a cute funny short story.

Shounen isn’t a relationship between two male friends , it can even have a female protagonist. It isn’t just action either. It’s just a comic for younger male audiences

And djs aren’t a depicted form of Shounen type stories, it can be a fanmade spinoff for any type of story like shoujo or even Yaoi.

Yaoi - also known as Boys' Love or BL in Japan, is a genre mostly written by women, for women, that depicts homosexual relationships between men. Yaoi categorizes more of the sexual aspects, such as Smut, or explicit content.

Shounen-ai - Shounen-ai categorizes stories that focus on emotional aspects of relationships.

[R] - it can be both of them. It depends on how the author writes the story. Also, I have read somewhere that the two terms is now only used in the western.

Yuri - Yuri is a genre that depicts homosexual relationships between women. Yuri categorizes more of the sexual aspects and explicit content.

Shoujo-ai - Shoujo-ai categorizes stories that focus on the emotional aspects of the relationships.

[R] - Again it can be both of them. It depends on how the author writes the story.

Shounen - aimed at boys and young men. Shounen Is typically characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. Commonly-found themes in shounen manga/anime include martial arts, robots, science fiction, sports, horror or mythological creatures.

Shoujo - is aimed for teenage girls. Shoujo covers many subjects in a variety of narrative styles, from historical drama to science fiction, often with a focus on romantic relationships or emotions.

Josei - aimed at women from late teens through adulthood. These titles tend to be more mature, often focusing on realistic situations such as work life or romance. They tend to be both more sexually explicit storytelling than shoujo, ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE.
