I agree with you
I think its because other stories like this have always made kids act like adults take in lady baby, or wmmap as an example. Even if their storys don't have the same plot they still hold their characters to a high standard, and are similar enough to be associated with one another.
So in my opinion people have a Very high standard for child characters because of stories that have come before stories like this one.

Can I just say to the people calling Haillyn stupid and dumb because she should ""act her age" since her "mental age" is technically 18, SHE WAS LOCKED IN A ROOM FOR BASICALLY HER WHOLE LIFE BY HERSELF! now i don't know if its just me but having no experience with other people besides her abusers and living alone in a cabin without permission to leave (basically a prison cell) takes a toll on your mental health. Also she hasn't really developed mentally anyways since she was LOCKED UP since she was this age so her "mental age" and her thoughts make so much sense cause all shes ever known are abusers and being left alone until death. Just my opinion
